Conference Reception

Ty Llen Dylan Thomas Centre, Somerset Place, Swansea (Tel: 01792 463980)
19:00-21:30, Tuesday, 4th April 2000

"The Dylan Thomas Centre is a resplendent colonnaded Victorian Grade II Listed building steeped in Civic and Cultural history. The building started out its life on September 28th 1825, with the laying of the foundation stone of 'The New Town Hall and House of Correction', and was completed in 1829.

"The building served many purposes, Council Chambers, Law courts as well as prisoners cells until 1949. From 1982 the building stood empty and housed tramps and vagrants until 1993 when work started to fully restore the building to its former glory.

"On March 1st 1995 the building was reopened by HRH Prince of Wales and visited by the former USA President Jimmy Carter." (http://www.swansea.gov.uk/swanseamarina/)

Buses will leave for the venue of the dinner at 18:45 in front of the Fulton House in the University. On our arrival, welcoming us will be a sherry reception laid-out near the Dylan Thomas exhibition. This is followed by a three course dinner with a Welsh theme. The reception will also be packed with some surprises.
