When You Arrive at Swansea

The Conference will be held on the main campus of University of Wales Swansea. Delegates may register during the following time slots:

  • 15:00 - 17:00, Monday, 3rd April 2000 -- Neuadd Lewis Jones Hall (No. 20 on the Campus map)
  • 10:00 - 14:00, Tuesday, 4th April 2000 -- Foyer of the Engineering Building (No. 8 on the Campus map)
  • During coffee/Tea break -- Foyer of the Engineering Building
  • 8:30 - 9:00, Thursday, 6th April 2000 (Wales Digital Media Workshop), -- Foyer of the Engineering Building
The conference main venue is the Esso Lecture Theatre accessed through the Foyer of the Engineering Building. The second stream will be held in the Robert Recorde Room, (Room 205), in the the Engineering Building. The lunch will be provided in the Fulton House (No.17 on the Campus map).

When you arrive at Swansea, if you have booked accommodation with the conference, you should go directly to the Neuadd Lewis Jones Hall (Tel: 01792 205678 ext 4653) for ensuite rooms, or Neuadd Sibly Hall for non-ensuite rooms (No.19 on the Campus map, Tel: 01792 205678 ext 4651), in the University of Wales Swansea. There is a 24 hour porter service, and they will have your name and the key to your room. However, in the following situtations, you may choose to go directly the specific venue of an event:

  • 19:00-21:00, Monday, 3rd April, likely some conference organisers and delegates will enjoy a few drinks and have their evening meals in the Pub on the Pond, a quiet pub next to the University (following the westend gate by No.9.1 on the Campus map).
  • During the conference, other than lunch time, you may go directly to the main conference venue in the Engineering Building.
  • 19:00-21:00, Tuesday, 4th April, Ty Llen, Dylan Thomas Centre, Somerset Place (Tel: 01792 463980), Swansea, where the conference reception is held. It takes less than 5 minutes from either rail station or coach station by taxi.
  • 19:00-21:00, Wednesday, 5th April, Osborne Hotel, Rotherslade Road, Langland, Swansea (Tel: 01792 366274). It takes about 15-25 minutes from either rail station or coach station by taxi.

On-Campus Facilities

On-campus facilities are mainly located in the Fulton House (No.17 on the Campus map) where you can find a post office, a travel shop, a copy shop, a union shop (groceries), a hairdresser, two bars, a corner shop, ATM machines, phone boxes, the main refectory and a few of other eating places.

Another focal point is the Taliesin Arts Centre (No.32 on the Campus map), where you can find a theatre, a bank, a bookshop, an art gallery, a bar and the Egypt Centre.

Other useful facilities are the library (No.7.1), the sport centre (5 minutes talk through the Singleton Hospital), and an Internet Cafe in the James Callaghan Building (No. 3).

In addition, the Department of Computer Science will provide Internet access to delegates in its labs located on the second floor of the Engineering Building.
